Why wont my google toolbar work?

I clicked on view toolbars and clicked on google toolbar but it wont come on. When i check it doesn't open. If i delete it and reinstall it will i lose all my bookmarks ? What can i do? Help !|||Try this...click tools....click manage add-ons...locate google toolbar and click...then click enable !~
